Is it Possible to Break Your Penis?

Dear ReproRants

Is it possible to break your penis?

Thank you for asking this question! The answer to this question is yes absolutely it is possible for a penis to break. This injury is called a penile fracture and can happen when the penis is bent too far when erect. While the term fracture is usually used in terms of breaking a bone in this case it is referring to tissue tearing as the penis does not contain any bones! This injury is a serious medical problem and requires immediate medical attention if it occurs. In order to understand why a break like this can happen we first need to understand a little bit about what an erection is and how the anatomy of the penis functions in order to stay erect. The penis is essentially a collection of three “spongy” cylinders; the urethra (what pee and ejaculate is released through), the glans (or head of the penis), and skin. During an erection the corpus cavernosum and corpus spongiosum (see image) fill with blood much like how a hose becomes more stiff when you run water through it!

When too much force is applied this tissue can tear causing bleeding. This can occur from any large amount of force such as hitting the pelvic bone during PIV (Penis in Vagina) intercourse or trauma due to a heavy object or falling.
